How to Choose a CA or Taxation Consultant in Gurgaon

By [CA Full Name], Chartered Accountant Published Last reviewed 6 min read

Search for the "best CA in Gurgaon" and you'll find long directory lists and paid rankings. The right firm, though, depends on what you need — monthly GST compliance, a one-time income tax notice, an audit, or ongoing taxation advice. These seven checks will help you decide.

1. Verify the professional's credentials

Only a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) may practise as a Chartered Accountant. Ask for the membership number or the firm registration number (FRN) and verify it on the ICAI website. Certificates and audit reports signed by a CA should carry a UDIN, which you can check on the ICAI UDIN portal.

2. Look for relevant experience

An NRI selling property in Gurugram has different needs from an e-commerce seller registered in three states. Ask whether the firm regularly handles work like yours, and who in the team will do it.

3. Know who does the work — and who reviews it

In many firms, filings are prepared by staff. That's normal, but a qualified professional should review returns and notice replies before they are submitted.

4. Insist on written scope and fees

A professional firm will set out the scope of work, timeline and fee in an engagement letter. Be cautious of anyone who promises a "guaranteed refund" or offers to make a notice "go away".

5. Check how deadlines are tracked

GST, TDS and income tax deadlines fall throughout the year. Ask how the firm reminds you of due dates and what it needs from you, and when.

6. Ask about data security

You'll be sharing PAN, Aadhaar, bank statements and login access. Ask how documents are shared and stored, and never share OTPs over chat.

7. Read genuine reviews

Google reviews give a fair picture of responsiveness and service. Read the detailed reviews rather than relying on the star rating alone.

Taxation consultant or income tax consultant? An income tax consultant typically handles returns and notices. A taxation consultant also advises on GST, tax planning, structuring and representation before authorities. Many firms, including ours, provide both.

Do You Need GST Registration? A Guide for Gurgaon Businesses

By [CA Full Name], Chartered Accountant Published Last reviewed 6 min read

Whether you run a shop in Sector 14, a consultancy in Cyber City or sell online from home, one of the first compliance questions is whether you must register under GST. The answer depends on your turnover, the type of supply and how you sell.

1. Turnover-based registration

In Haryana, a normal-category state, registration generally becomes mandatory when your aggregate turnover in a financial year exceeds:

  • ₹40 lakh — if you exclusively supply goods (subject to conditions and exclusions)
  • ₹20 lakh — if you supply services, or both goods and services

Aggregate turnover is calculated on an all-India PAN basis and includes taxable, exempt and export supplies, and inter-state supplies between your own branches.

2. Cases where registration is required regardless of turnover

  • Inter-state taxable supply of goods
  • Selling goods through e-commerce operators (with limited exceptions)
  • E-commerce operators required to collect tax at source
  • Persons liable to pay tax under reverse charge
  • Casual taxable persons and non-resident taxable persons
  • Input service distributors and persons required to deduct TDS under GST

3. Documents usually needed

  1. PAN of the business or proprietor
  2. Aadhaar of the proprietor, partners or directors (for authentication)
  3. Proof of the place of business — electricity bill, rent agreement or ownership document, with NOC where applicable
  4. Bank account details (cancelled cheque or statement)
  5. Constitution documents — partnership deed, certificate of incorporation, etc.
  6. Photographs of the proprietor, partners or directors
Practical tip: Applications are often queried because the address proof doesn't match the address entered, or the owner's NOC is missing for rented premises. Check these before you apply.

4. Voluntary registration

Even below the threshold, registering can help if your customers are GST-registered businesses that want to claim input tax credit. Once registered, however, you must file returns regularly — even nil returns — so weigh the compliance load first.

Thresholds and conditions can change through notifications. Confirm the current position before applying.

Received an Income Tax Notice? What to Do Next

By [CA Full Name], Chartered Accountant Published Last reviewed 5 min read

A notice from the Income Tax Department does not automatically mean you are in trouble. Many are routine — a mismatch between your return and the data the department holds, or a request for clarification. What matters is responding correctly and on time.

Step 1: Confirm the notice is genuine

Fake tax notices and phishing emails are common. Log in to the Income Tax e-filing portal and check the Pending Actions and e-Proceedings sections. The portal also lets you authenticate a notice or order using its Document Identification Number (DIN). Never click payment links in emails or SMS.

Step 2: Identify what kind of notice it is

The notice will cite the provision under which it is issued and the year it relates to. Common categories include:

  • Intimation after processing — shows whether there is a demand, refund or no change after your return was processed
  • Defective return notice — the return has an error that must be corrected
  • Request for information or documents — the assessing officer wants supporting details
  • Scrutiny or reassessment notice — your return has been selected for detailed examination, or income is believed to have escaped assessment
The Income-tax Act, 2025 replaced the Income-tax Act, 1961 from 1 April 2026. Notices for earlier years may still refer to sections of the 1961 Act, while newer notices may cite the 2025 Act — so section numbers can look unfamiliar. Read what the notice actually asks rather than relying on the section number alone.

Step 3: Note the deadline

Every notice specifies a response date. Missing it can lead to penalties or an assessment made without your explanation. If you need more time, request an adjournment through the portal before the deadline.

Step 4: Gather evidence and respond

  • Form 16/16A, AIS and Form 26AS
  • Bank statements and investment proofs
  • Property sale/purchase documents for capital gains
  • Invoices and books of account for business income

Respond to exactly what is asked, with documents that support each point.

When to get professional help

For a simple mismatch, you may be able to respond yourself. For scrutiny, reassessment, large demands or business income, have a Chartered Accountant review the notice before you reply.

Rent Agreements in Gurugram: Clauses You Shouldn't Skip

By [Advocate Full Name], Advocate Published Last reviewed 5 min read

Most landlord–tenant disputes in Gurugram — over deposits, maintenance charges, early exit or rent increases — come down to a vague or missing clause. A well-drafted agreement prevents most of them.

Essential clauses

  • Parties and property — full names, addresses, ID details and an exact description of the premises, including parking and fittings
  • Term and lock-in — start date, duration and any lock-in period for either party
  • Rent and escalation — amount, due date, mode of payment and the annual increase
  • Security deposit — amount, and the conditions and timeline for refund
  • Maintenance and utilities — who pays society maintenance, electricity, water and repairs
  • Notice period and termination — how either party can end the agreement
  • Use restrictions — residential or commercial use, subletting, pets
  • Inventory — a signed list of furniture and appliances, with condition

Stamp duty and registration

A rent agreement must be executed on stamp paper of the correct value, which in Haryana can be purchased through e-stamping. Under the Registration Act, a lease for a term exceeding one year must be registered — one reason many residential agreements are made for 11 months. Registration strengthens your position in a dispute, so consider it for longer or high-value tenancies.

Tenant verification

Landlords in Gurugram should complete police verification of tenants, online through the Haryana Police citizen services portal or at the local police station.

For commercial premises: also address GST on rent, TDS on rent payments, fit-out rights and restoration on exit.

Official sources

Stamp duty rates and procedures are revised from time to time. Confirm current rates before execution.
